Government may relent as Anna and Opposition tango

lower bureaucracy and citizen's charter within the ambit of the proposed Lokpal.
However, it urged his team to exhibit flexibility and leave the nitty-gritty of
the law to Parliament.
Later in the day, a senior government source said that it was ready to include the
prime minister and Group C employees in Lokpal's ambit. The government was also
planning a series of legislations to meet most other demands of Team Anna, like
citizen's charter and scrutiny of judiciary.|read...

that all's well with Bharatanatyam; for in truth, mediocrity is edging out merit,
says Dhananjayan
The world's cultural capital, Chennai, is bubbling with Bharatanatyam events. However,
one wonders whether merit still has a place in an ever-growing line-up of performers.
Performances take place in Chennai's sabhas, big and small, one after another, irrespective
of whether there is an audience. The supply is more than the demand as far as the
performing art of Bharatanatyam is concerned. |read...

Pentavalent vaccine to be introduced on Wednesday
The pentavalent vaccine has been supplied to both the states and all preparatory
activities including training and logistics are completed, a statement issued by
the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said here on Tuesday.
Introduction of Hib vaccination as a combination vaccine carries the added advantage
of reducing the number of injections given to a child from 9 (3 each for DPT, Hepatitis
B and Hib) to three.
Based on the recommendations of WHO and the National Technical Advisory Group on
Immunisation (NTAGI), Pentavalent vaccine will be introduced in these two states
with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation GAVI providing free vaccine
for three years after which the Centre takes over the programme. |read...
